Sacramental Theology

In this session, taught by Father Tait Schroeder, students will use fundamental documents of the Church such as the Constitution on Sacred Liturgy and the General Instruction on the Roman Missal. We will study liturgy, sacraments and the role of sacramentals in Catholic theology. Attention will be given to the historical and scriptural development of sacramental theology, how community prayer and ritual actualizes its experience of God (Lex orandi, lex credendi) and sacraments as symbol within the Catholic community.

Preparatory Homework
To prepare for this session, students will be asked to read the following: DLI participant Carrie Skinner offers the following suggestions for approaching the Summa:
1)  Read the 'On the contrary'
2)  Read the 'I answer that'
3)  Read Objection 1, then Reply to Objection 1; Objection 2, Reply to Objection 2, etc.
Each reply addresses the corresponding objection.
