Moral Theology
In this session, taught by Bishop Robert Morlino, students will explore the central sources and themes of
Catholic moral theology.
Referencing primary sources such as the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the documents of Vatican Council II,
papal encyclicals such as the Splendor of Truth, we will examine a Catholic understanding of God,
the human person, and the human community.
Selected themes will include: natural law; mind body unity; responsibility and freedom; law; sin; grace.
Due to heavy use of the Bishop O'Connor Catholic Center this weekend, the schedule has been modified slightly.
The optional Mass begins at 8:00 rather than 7:30, and classes will begin in meeting room 7 (rather than our
usual use of room G6) at 9:00.
Preparatory Homework
Bishop Morlino has granted a homework-free month to the students of the DLI!
Practicum in Spiritual Formation
This month we will introduce students to the Divine Mercy devotion given by Christ to
Saint Faustina, especially the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
(Pope John Paul II proclaimed the Sunday after Easter to be "Mercy Sunday.")
Find out more about this devotion here:
www.marian.org/divinemercy
We will use
this resource for our morning prayer.
Class Notes
Bishop Morlino will probably not provide printed materials, so students should come prepared to take good notes.
With a strong background teaching in seminaries, Bishop Morlino tends to use a lecture style with
marker and "blackboard," and does not use PowerPoint presentations.
Audio Recordings
Due to the generosity of David Stiennon and the Madison Serra Club, audio recordings of this day's activities
are available here. If you would like to purchase a copy of this three-CD audio set or $20,
please call the OEC at 608-821-3160.
