A question about temperament:
Thank you also to Fr. Bartylla for a fantastic informational session on spirituality.  I certainly learned a lot.  My question is in regard to the sanguine temperament.  I consider a sensual person to be one who loves to smell flowers, watch beautiful sunsets, taste delicious foods, listen to inspiring music and touch the soft cheeks of babies.  In other words - using the wondrous senses that God has gifted us with to appreciate his many other gifts of creation.  So why is sensuality listed as a negative quality?

Answer from Sr. Marcia Vinje:
Every temperament has its positive sides and negative sides. Your definition of sensual is indeed the positive element of being very in tune with one's senses and using them to glorify God. The flip side of the coin happens when the gratification of the senses is taken to an extreme. Sensuality is usually the negative aspect of being pre-occupied with the worldly to the exclusion of the moral, intellect and spiritual elements. People of sanguine temperament just need to be aware of this tendency and discipline themselves. Does that help?

God bless,
    Sr. M. Marcia Vinje
