Closing of the Diocesan Lay Institute
On June 9 we will have a solemn closing of the Diocesan Lay Institute and
conferral of certification for those members who have attended all classes or have
submitted make-up papers for sessions missed. This will take place at Mass at 4:00 pm
with Bishop Morlino presiding and presenting the certificates. Your families are invited.
There will be a reception afterwards.
Online Materials
As courses proceed, audio recordings of the classes, class handouts, links to reading homework, and
other pertinent materials that are normally given to students at class will also be available on this web page.
Click the links on the left for resources specific to each class.
Participants' Forum
While instructors make every effort to allocate class time for questions, realities of time and numbers prevent every
question from being answered. Students may also ask questions via email sent to
DLI@straphael.org.
The OEC will obtain an answer to the question,
either from the instructor or another reliable source. The questions and answers are
posted here.
Survey of Participants
Every registered participant is asked to provide some background about themselves by filling out a
brief online survey.
This information will help the DLI instructors to tailor their material to meet your needs.
F.O.R.E.M. credit
F.O.R.E.M.
(Formation Of Religious Education Ministers) is designed to prepare catechists to
serve in the ministry of Catholic education. It is intended for Catholic school teachers, parish
religious education catechists, youth ministers, all those involved in any form of adult religious
education and education commission/committee personnel.
The courses of the Diocesan Lay Institute may be applied toward the F.O.R.E.M. certification.
Keep the credit sheets yourself or give them to your parish religious education office if they keep
files for catechists. Once you have completed one level of the program you may submit all the
forms to the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis for review.
Certification for the Diocesan Lay Institute Level 1 will be awarded for
completion of the work of all ten sessions. If you miss a session, you can
receive make up credit by listening to the recording of the class and
writing a two page summary/reflection paper on the material.
